Accessibility
We want everyone in Wallingford to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology.
Last updated October 2026.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard most public websites follow. We check new pages and features against it as we add them, and we fix problems as we find them.
What we have built in
- Readable colors: text and buttons are designed for strong contrast, in light mode and in dark mode. Dark mode follows your device’s setting, and the switch in the header lets you choose either one.
- Keyboard use: every link, button and form works with a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a “Skip to content” link at the top of each page.
- Screen readers: pages have clear headings and landmarks, icon buttons have spoken labels, photos have descriptions where they carry meaning, and each day on our event calendar reads out its events.
- Less motion: if your device asks for reduced motion, the site’s animations stop.
- Zoom and small screens: text grows with your browser’s zoom, and every page adapts to phones and tablets.
- Forms: fields are labeled and required ones are marked. If something needs fixing, the membership application lists each problem and takes you to the field.
- Without scripts: if JavaScript is off, every page still shows all of its information.
What we are still working on
- Some photos in older news stories do not have full descriptions yet.
- Some PDFs, such as the printable application and FEMA’s course materials, may not work well with every screen reader. For the course slides, the CERT Reference Guide writes out the text of every slide on each section’s page. For anything else, ask us for the same information in another format.
- Content from other services, such as our Facebook posts, Google Calendar and the websites we link to, is outside our control.
Tell us about a problem
If something on this website is hard to use, or you would like information in another format, email info@wallingfordcert.org or use our contact form. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will do our best to fix it or get you the information another way.
